A group of hackers claim to have stolen data from 120 million Facebook profiles . To prove the reality of hacking , messages from 81,000 accounts have been posted online. Which give credibility to the sale to potential buyers.
By pretending to be interested buyers that the BBC journalists have been able to exchange with the pirates. We learn that they claim the theft of 120 million profiles on the social network, and they ask “only” 10 cents per Facebook account . For this price, they provide all the personal data of the profile (private discussions, photos …) as well as the details related to the account (email, mobile phone …).
Some experts question the reality of the scale of this claim. According to them, it would be difficult to hack so many accounts discreetly. But Facebook’s official reaction is cautious. The company claims that the security of its infrastructure is not in question. According to them, the hacking was carried out via a malicious browser extension , without giving more details on the extension in question.
